Aquamarine belongs to the Beryl minerals. The stone has colors varying from a deep and pastel blue to one of the clearest shades of blue. Its name was derived from the Latin word aqua marina, meaning seawater. Aquamarine’s occurrence can also be linked to water as it is often found in hydrothermal cavities.

Because of its blue color and the underlying meaning of its name this precious stone was considered the protector of men at sea. Therefore often called ‘the gem of the sea’. Aquamarine is said to embody youthfulness and everlasting love, as well as representing health and hope.
